The car transport industry has many different types of services in order to accommodate the needs of every customer. Each car transport request is very unique as each person has different requirements and expectations. Make sure you provide as many details as possible to your agent in order to allow him to provide the best service fit to your needs. Some cars require specific types of services you might not be aware off, your agent will help you determine the best service for you.
Here are some of the most common services in the car transport industry.
Open Carrier: These carriers are the most common in the industry, you ca find form a one car towing truck open carrier to 11 car 18 hauler. These carriers are in high demand and run routes all over the country. One of the disadvantages of these carriers is that cars are exposed to environment and road conditions and it is easier for cars to suffer damages, however every carrier offers full insurance to cover for the cars while on transit.
Enclosed Carrier: These type of carriers offer the maximum protection for cars during transit as they are mounted within metal containers or canvas covered trailers. Drivers who handle enclosed carriers are considered to be the best in the business as they are trained specifically to deal with high end cars. Enclosed carriers are mostly used to transport luxury cars, sports cars, convertibles or compact cars, and motorcycles.
RO-RO Platforms: Roll-On Roll-Off platforms are used to ship cars short distances over a body of water, New York City and Seattle are common cities where these platforms can be seen, cars are parked in rows, one after the other form one side to the other. As its name says it, cars are rolled on and then rolled off to their destination.
Door-to-Door: This is a service that carriers provide that allows private owners to give in and receive cars from the comfort of their homes. This service was not that common before as most companies who booked this service were large companies who picked up cars from dealers or terminals.
Terminal-to-Terminal: As mentioned before each transport case is different, while some customer expect to receive their cars at the door of their homes, some are not available and cannot receive it in a door-to-door service for many reasons. Some are moving and don't have a house set yet, or simply don't have anyone to receive the car for them. For these cases, transport companies offer a drop off terminal where customers can pickup or drop off the car. This service may incur in extra fees for the terminal.
